Hooked into this beast with the Lunakia today. I had to deal with current today and until I saw this fish I would have swore it was a really good spotted bass. The Lunakia is going to get a lot of play in the next 6 weeks or so.

Nice TARP, got a White last week. Good catch, so much fun on the JDM gear. Wrestled mine from 20+ ft deep in brush with the 7.4 Corto. Then he decided to cut a rug when he saw the boat.

OMG its such a huge difference over American market tackle. I could feel when a small leaf attached itself to the jig. I could figure out what the bottom was like (grassy, sticks, muddy, etc) just by how it felt when bouncing a jig. The sensitivity of these Ajing rods is unlike anything I've experienced. And the Luvias is the nicest reel I've ever used--fly or spin.
Pulled in a dozen panfish and a smaller LM bass that was the highlight of my day--only one that required the net. The fight was lots of fun on 2 lb line with a fairly loose drag. The panfish were all little except for one so the search continues for good panfish water near me. I picked up a variety of trout magnet plastics in several colors and threw them on 1/64 oz jigs.
Thanks everyone for the advice while I made the plunge to jump into the JDM Ultralight tackle. It made a huge difference and gave me the confidence to try out something I so thoroughly enjoyed. I look forward to experimenting and exploring what this style of fishing can do.

I am also happy to report that I finally caught my first (ever) panfish today. Went out to a local creek with Rockin' Finesse paired with Soare Ci4+ C2000SSPG spooled with 1 lb ester (#0.2). There was barely any water left amidst the summer heat, and I didn't even know if there were any fish in that creek. Well, tiny largemouth bass and even smaller bluegill were there, and they enjoyed my tiny JDM jig rigs. The smallest I cast was 0.2 g (!) – not great, but can be worked along the bottom. Sometimes I could see fish grabbing my jig in the shallow water. An awesome break from saltwater and long casts! I will be back to that creek very soon...
Also, VACrappieMan was right about the Finesse's reel seat and Shimano reel foot: after quite a few attempts, the Soare sits perfectly in that seat (something must've loosened up). The nut is still not flush with the seat when Daiwa is mounted. Nitpicking, I know...
Yodie could you elaborate on the 63 Luna? I think you have a Banshee. How does it do for bluegill.....will it give you fun on smaller Gills. I’m really torn about getting the Ever Green at 550 bucks or the shorter Luna.Quote:

The Tenryu 6'3" Lunakia is a bluegill and its relatives rod through and through. The "Light-Medium-Light" rating is misleading at best., be not mistaken, this is an ultralight rod. With its Extra Fast rated action, Tenryu was not messing around, this is a Fast action rod, with only the last 10-15% of the rod flexing much when under load. Yet the tip is soft and sensitive, making this a premier "twitching" rod for twitching small plastics on light jigheads for the various Lepomis species. It excels with lures in the .5-1-gram weight range. If I am after smaller bluegill in some of our local highly pressured community ponds, this is my go-to rod. With a .5 gram Daiwa Gekkabijin jig head and a Trout Manget I am able to get casts in the 40+ foot range to reach out a good distance down parralell to shore to keep myself away from these small, wary fish.
While I have yet to do any dedicated Crappie fishing with this rod, despite the super fast tip action, it is still soft enough to be perfectly adequate and not cause any issues catching/fighting/landing the papermouths aroudn the country, though not my first choice.
One thing to note with this rod, due to its extremely fast action one must be concious of a high rod angle when fighting a fish, especially once close to shore/boat. I have not seen any evidence to think this rod has major issues here, but the way the rod bends when fully loaded would give me pause before trying to boat lift ANY fish, let alone one of any good size.
