The idea was when they first came out , if your line broke then it wasn’t that you had to totally line your pole again. Of course like someone stated if it breaks down inside the rod it’s quite an ordeal.
So knowing that you simply fill the reel with line. On the one I continue to use I only put 24 to 36 feet of line on the reel. So once the reel is loaded you simply pull out the amount of line you want and lock the reel handle back in. Just FYI I always fish with 12 feet of line out or less. I have tried using it deeper but the reel just isn’t smooth enough to reel a 2+ pound fish up. The reel wasn’t designed to operate like a reel you would cast with. It’s all plastic.
