    Default color combination

I was fishing with a friend in my boat using my poles and my color combinations and minnows. Catching was slow but they were biting. He throws one his jigs on a pole which is a orange and yellow tube. That pole went HOT. I go back a few days later and the pole with his tube is out performing the others again. I go to Acedemy and these colors are no where to be found in my favorite brands, Has anybody been having good luck with orange/yellow.

Strike King makes a shadpole electric chicken/red that has been good for me lately. They make it other styles but the shadpole has worked well for shooting docks. The color is not like Bobby Garland electric chicken but more like what you a talking about. Strike King is available most anywhere that has soft baits.

I make most of my on jigs. But I don't use orange much. Sometimes one color will be hot for a while. Can you show a picture and we my be able to tell you where to find them. Might even be able to make you something close to it.

You never know why they like a certain color all of a sudden, but it usually its something just like that ,a color you cant find anymore probably because you have had it for a while. Awhile back my buddy and I on our long lining trips all early spring noticed 90 per cent of the time when we caught a fish it was on a grub that had an orange tail with a yellow and white main body. We also noticed that we had just a few of them left! Course we don't know where we bought them or who made them as we had taken them out of their original packaging and put them in a tackle box slot. The nearest thing we could find was a southern pro grub but it had a bright red tail and just did not produce like the orange tail go figure. Thankfully the following year they wanted a slider jig in motor oil.

I think water turbidity also contributes to this phenomenon. That orange is easier to see in stained water that other colors and they hit it. I will use an orange headed jig when it gets a little bit muddy and do real well with it.

Orange and yellow is a odd combo, don't think I have ever seen it in a tube. Might try a orange and Chartruse. That's a pretty good combo here at times.
Or get a orange head and pair it with a straight yellow tube.

Here is a picture of the bait. I have almost never used orange because of where it sets on the light spectrum. Yeah the water was stained maybe 2.5 foot visibility. After looking at the picture it kinda Chartruse.

I always keep some orange and chartreuse in both tube and curly tail. When it's hot it's hot and when it's not it's not (remember that old song.) I honestly do not try it often it is down the list of my confidence baits but over the years I have caught some fish on it and always have some. Also caught white bass on the Mississippi with it. Have had some days it was the color to have on....seems like it is a good murky water color too...that explains the Mississippi thing a little. Caught a couple Walleye and Sauger with it too before.

That is Orange and Yellow Chartruse on a Yellow head. Like I said before and doggone said in dingy water like we have here on the big 4 most of the time it can be killer at times. Back in early fall several of us were together for 4 days fishing on Okatibie lake here in Ms. That was all they would hit period. That and a lime and chartruse are just about always on 2 hooks when I start out spider rigging. I may change out latter but they are going to have to tell me they don't want either one of those two before I do.

You can get those in a Crappie Tube kit from Cabelas. It comes with about 40 different color combos...for around $30 buck.
