Default Old dog / New tricks

First attempt at drop shotting for gills/red ear . Used 60 worms and got to use some baits several times . Kept a few for tomorrows lunch . Next time I will try using panfish / crappie magnet baits . Name: IMG_20250621_212239439.jpg

I've watched some video's of that technique for 'gills and it seems like a winning idea. Looks like it works for you as well.
Good catch and a good dinner, too!
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

👍🏼 👍🏼 Great!! Those will fry up nice. Now you can catch them all year long with the drop shot rig, not just when they are on the beds in the Spring. It is a fish producing technique for sure. Drop shot rig is my go to setup, especially after the Spring spawn.
I have even caught Summer crappie with the drop shot rig also.

Those are some nice fish there! I’ve been looking for some like those but haven’t found em yet. I’m about to try drop shot myself, just need some little weights. Have to look in my stash tomorrow.

What type of hooks do you all use? Best way of tying drop shot hook rig?
Any preference for plastic baits? Thanks for any info.

I have done drop shot for panfish a fair amount. The Trout Magnet is a great bait, but I think the Trout Magnet Cross will be even better. A couple of my "top secret" baits for this: Strike King Mr. Crappie Teen Zee Fry and Strike King Mr. Crappie Maxie Waxie. These two baits are so deadly, they are illegal in 18 states! Of course, I am just kidding. Both of these have worked extremely well for me! I like to position right in front of a deep weed edge with the nose of the boat touching the weed edge. I the cast the drop shot right in front of and parallel with weed edge. Work it back slowly, pausing and twitching, and you won't be able to get it back without a fish on it!
