    Default Fair or Foul?

So North Carolina wants to go big time with hosting a National Crappie League tournament Feb. 7-8 on High Rock. This is a big national 2 day event with TV coverage and entry fees of $300 and $400. But they have off limits north of shrine club. The beauty of High Rock is the different ways and options it can be fished. Fair or Foul?Name: IMG_5026.jpg

Is it off limits because of the tournament?

Foul. With 3-4 pounders being caught in the off limits area. All navigable water should be in play.

Yep sad to “not fish” best part of lake. More debris from 2nd Creek to Swearing than up river. Kevin Blevins with a 4.07 hawg this week in Potts. Nate Quan with a 4.17 and 3.57 in same bag up river. I fished major tournament on Santee but no one helped me with the danger areas. I, as a grown @$$ man was responsible to figure it out and not set back and cry.

Fair in that everyone can fish the same water, assuming there are special rules excluding folks with low clearance boats that can pass under #8 bridge or flat swamp, from doing so.

Foul in the name of common sense and origins of rule.

The ultimate fairness is open entire lake. Everyone would be fishing same waters right? You are correct that depending on water level if Abbotts and Flat Swamp will be accessible. Yes you may can trailer but then you are stuck in the area you trailer to. With no limits, then the lake favors no one. Some will say those who go up river will have an advantage but everyone can go up river or down river or under Hwy 8 to Abbots and Flat Swamp with no limits.

You know that, and I know that, but since common sense is gone, I had to cover my bases lol

First and foremost, let me just say that I agree with Treed and Leudy. Open the entire lake, you decide how, when, if and where you can fish. Example, I consciously (and don't regret for one second) bout a deeper V glass boat with a windshield....

    - Does my configuration sometimes prohibit me from accessing certain areas on the lake based on water conditions? Yep.
    - Have I retrailered (is that a word?) to go fish areas I want to fish, knowing I'll be "trapped"? Yep.
    - Am willing to risk the pucker-effect trying to navigate skinny water to get where I need to be. Yep - and see Leudy's comment about being a "grown @$$" man.

You guys have all fished this lake wayyyyy longer than I have but it's hard to argue there are any real secrets on this body of water..... so, why close anything????

Devil's Advocate: Is it possible the powers-that-be recognize the time of year and are trying to protect the big spawners? That's about all I can come up with.

No not trying to protect spawn. A certain few does not like up river cause they cant nagivate or fish shallow water. You are correct in yourself evaluation that sometimes limits you personally but not the world. I have numerous text and post (facebook) from the few but I will not make this personal or attack any specific persons. This is a dog eat dog tournament. For all the marbles. $400 entry fee, TV coverage, national recognition. This one is NOT supposed to be fun. Fun was last Thursday at Badin for $20 winner take all. This separates the real fishermen from the wanna be's. We are living in the day and age of everyone gets a trophy. Real life is not that way. National Crappie League has been severely influenced by the few, as NCL have never been on High Rock and know nothing about the lake. My problem is the few will not MAN UP and admit its all about the few. The few keep making excuses saying chamber of commerce or sponsors or if NCL cant get their camera boat up there or numerous other cop outs. Its all about the few.
