    Default Hooks?

What are some good hooks beside the eagle claw hooks at Walmart ? They so dull can’t stick through the minnow much less a fish.

I like eagle claw 202el for minnows, they are thinner wire so the minnow can swim more freely. Just bend the tip straight with a pair of pliers and theyll be wicked sharp. I don't know why they have that dumb bend on the tip

Round Jig Heads, Unpainted :: Southern Pro Tackle

These are my go to and you can get sizes you can’t find in the store. I also use a hook sharpener for all my hooks gets them super sharp.

I've used Eagle Claw Aberdeen golds for as long as I can remember. I've never heard this complaint, still using some after years of use. May have quality control issues as of late, dunno. Soft mouths on minnows can be a sign of sickness. Matzou hooks perhaps?

    Thumbs up

Just bought a small pak of #2 gamakatsu drop shot hooks. Don’t ordinarily buy ‘high line’ products, but was in a bind. Gotta tell you though that I was thoroughly impressed with them, as just about every gill I hooked (and there were quite a few) ended up in the boat. Was using red worms and they stayed on the hook well. As a bonus, I also landed a 20+” smallie hooked solidly with the gamakatsu. Just pass’n my experience along as I thought it relevant, though I am new to panfishing. To add, on a few occasions I had to use long nose pliers to get the hook out, (This greenhorn just ordered forceps) yet did not bend the hook up at all. Well made and sharp as a razor, still.

The bend in Eagle Claw Aberdeen Tru-Turn hooks is intentional. The bend lets the hook turn in the fishes mouth when pulled (by fisherman or fish) to orient it better to penetrate the inside of the fishes mouth.

The only hooks that I buy are Gamakatsu or Mustad. Don't skimp on hooks. The best costs only a bit more.

I have alot of different ones but I use Tru Turn hooks with minnows. but never had a problem with any of the others. Same with jig hooks I have Mustad, EC, Matzuo's and some I believe are Gami's someone sent me to try.
