Thread: Leland TCB rod

Not to be a wise guy but after years of shooting docks, I use whatever is in my hand. Some are a bit stiff while others are the other side of the coin. I have a Leland TSS and have shot some of the trees I fish near and it did fine. From my understanding the TCB isn’t much different, or ami I wrong? Well built rod too.

I’m not a dock shooter. I have done it on an as needed basis....meaning shooting under cables and the sort...not many docks where I fish. I couldn’t tell you what really makes for a good dock shooting rod. There are 2 guys on the forum that are good dock shooters and are using a rod that most would not ever consider.....plus very few even know about the rod. It is an Major Craft Triple Cross Ajing rod.....very rigid. The TCB rod is pretty rigid and has a high graphite content. But the blank on the TCB rod is nowhere near as good as on the Major Craft rod. How much stress it can take....before it snaps......by pulling it back for dock shooting I have no clue. I am currently testing out the TCB for casting distance......sensitivity. While I did not pay for these rods I don’t want to break them to see how well I could shoot docks with one, as I will be giving both of them away on my YouTube channel. So far what I can tell you is it casts a 1/64 ounce jig head 45 feet using nylon line with a diameter of .128mm. The rod weighs 2.5 ounces and for the money is very sensitive. The guides on the TCB rod are slightly smaller than on the almost identical Trout Magnet TSS Rod. The stripper guide on the TCB rod is not the same AirWave guide that is on the TSS rod....it has a shorter frame. That’s all I know to tell you. I’m not sure any dock shooters have tried out the new TCB rod.

Something I found out the hard way is to set the drag on any rod you shoot with to slip when the rod gets to 90* at most. This helps keep from snapping the rod by overloading it. Some of the lower end rods tolerate more bend but I’ve broken a few so far. You’ll get the feel for whatever rod you use and what it will stand. Best presentation I’ve found for the tree choked banks I fish.

I never really thought about shoot jigs under/around trees and brush. I have always just kind of pitched it into tight spots. I have only done a little sick shooting for crappie. I think I will try shooting some trees for bedding readers this spring.

Sounds like it may weigh a little more than the TSS. Looking forward to the review and comparison.
