I agree with Ketchn, I think the bigger fish spawn earlier.

hehehe, the black isn't bad, but that white record is pretty skimpy

What's going on after ice out? Water is warming up right? Once you start to see that water get in the upper 40's look shallower... If you are on a boat it should be a heck of a lot easier to slide around and find them.

Down here in the south I have the best luck (when water levels are stable ) catching the big ones in 1-3 feet of water in very thick cover. It will usually be a hole in the weeds about the size of a 5 gallon bucket at the base of a tree. Using jigs.

Not when you consider that Wisconsin is at the top edge of the White Crappie range. And just so you know ... Florida's state record Black Crappie weighs the same as Wisconsin's White Crappie record @ 3lb 13oz

In my meager experience a few of the Lakes I fish using SI I have found Gill and Crappies beds in as deep as 16-20 feet. These fish are some of the biggest I have ever caught, it is one of the things I do not share even with friends as to where these spots are. When I do get on these fish I do not keep any it would be way to easy to decimate this population as anglers have with the shallow water spawning areas.

I think they spawn at different times mother nature tells them when but where is just time on the water and a pattern
