What's going on after ice out? Water is warming up right? Once you start to see that water get in the upper 40's look shallower... If you are on a boat it should be a heck of a lot easier to slide around and find them.
In my meager experience a few of the Lakes I fish using SI I have found Gill and Crappies beds in as deep as 16-20 feet. These fish are some of the biggest I have ever caught, it is one of the things I do not share even with friends as to where these spots are. When I do get on these fish I do not keep any it would be way to easy to decimate this population as anglers have with the shallow water spawning areas.
I think they spawn at different times mother nature tells them when but where is just time on the water and a pattern
