I have had buckets freeze solid full of water 1/2 and 3/4 full and they all crack at the bottom every time. I don't think it will stay cold enough that it would freeze it solid in your part of the country but it do's here. If you don't let your motor down at the ramp and let it drain it might freeze before you get home here. It might not be froze solid put when you get home and let the motor down it might not let it drain properly and then freeze solid over night. Always check lower unit for water. In some cases if its going to get in the single digits that night and you have been fishing in temps above freezing that day. Check it when you get home if it looks milky get it out and do not let it separate first.

Not this time of year. Were in the south central part and it still gets that cold. Looks like were going to get rain here today. 200 miles north in Chicago lots of snow. I hope they keep up there.
Be Safe and FISH
One hunting trip to Montana put me in the "always southern " catagory . When you must plug a radiator up at night to keep it from freezing you are no longer southern !![]()
Start a thread and come back a few days later, look what y'all have done ! All these big words and physics, somebody might learn sumptin. At this point I would say do what you have confidence in. Just like rods, plugs, jigs, etc. A fisherman uses the tackle and techniques he/she has confidence in. My head hurts.....smh.
