I sat around moping about all the rain and crap weather we have been having till I decided to go anyway. The wind was blowing pretty good and there was a constant threat of pop-up storms.
I tried some new spots I had been looking at on the map but those we vacant. I then tried some areas I have caught fish in the past, just not recent past. The crankbait bite has been awful for the last 2-3 months. I doubt the 90 degree water and zero current had anything to do with it. It was ASIAN CARP!!!!! (That was for you cuz).
I put out 6 rods with different depth, size, and color cranks. I also had a little yet to be discussed trick from my recent white bass trips up my sleeve.
The 1st keeper crappie was an 11 incher that made me pay more attention to what kind of water it came from. Slowly they came but never more than one in any spot. I did catch several short crappie and yellows on my undiscussed trick. The last of 6 keepers came over the side as I was debating heading to the ramp. I had no more got it in the livewell when one of my rods on the rear doubled over with a big fish. About the time I got the 5-6 pound channel cat to the top and started to the boat, one of my 14 footers doubled over. I 1st thought it was hung up till the BIG blue cat came up right behind the boat and around the 1st cat that was rolling on top, about 40 feet back. I took turns reeling both rods trying to get the cats in while trying to steer the RipTide with the remote at 1.7mph. I finally got the big blue along side the boat with it all tangled up in the braid line that the channel was on. When the blue got a good look at the boat and the rat's nest in front of its face, it headed for parts unknown and broke the 12 pound mono, taking the last of a particular color crank I still had. Before I could get back to the rod the channel was on, it pulled off also.
I took one look at 40 feet of braid on hard knots wrapped up in 2 other rods and decided it was time to cut my losses. I ended up with 6 decent keeper crappie with 2 of them 15 inchers, one 16 inch green carp, one 4 pound channel and minus a few cranks.
It was good to see 83 degree water at 5PM and hopefully the crankbait bite is starting to pick back up. My ego has been taking a stomping over the crap bite lately.
Fall is coming!!

Foul hooked a 15 pound bighead yesterday. Stabbed it in the air bladder and tossed it back...sounded like I stuck an icepick into a car tire!

Good report Doug. Glad to see your post. I'm trying to get to the lake next week. Been busy getting a transom 360 mounted and house chores the last two weeks. Plus, it's been Raining just a little bit.![]()
I have marking a lot of big fish at the mouth of West Sandy. When I see these, I just steam another course. I believe them to be carp. Nothing bites when these large fish are nearby.

Clint, any suggestions on how far down and how for back? If the lure is rigged to have pin pulled on strike we might would like it to have a little distance.![]()
