Ky lake fishing report bad

I have a camp around the Danville area and usually fish 1 or 2 days a week .. The last month and a half have been terrible for me . I target only crappie and catfish at times . When I do go out I may catch a few yellow stripe and maybe a dink crappie or 2 and that's about it.. Hopefully things will change when the water cools..Any of you guys having my luck ?

My experience has been the same as yours for the crappie the last couple of months. We have been catching enough to satisfy clients but not up to the standards I hold myself to.

It looks like with the cooling water temps things should pick up.Ky Lake has had notably little current all summer.

Havn't caught enough keeper size crappie to make supper in the last two months. Fishing Big Sandy area. Hope cooler weather improves the bite but I'm about to think they just are not out there. Lost spawns back to back will make a big void in size classes of fish, I guess. At least thats what the experts say.

I went to the TWRA meeting at the Henry County Fairgrounds in Paris earlier this year and they reported the fish netting program had nothing but positive results. They claim the next couple years should be much improved.

I keep hearing the same over hear on Barren. People asking, when did they have the big fish kill here on Barren? This spring I got to go out and help Fish and Wildlife shock boats collect female walleye for the hatchery. The numbers and size of different species of fish is unbelievable. Don't take my word for it, call your local Fish and Wildlife office and ask if you can help with the shock or test net program. You won't believe your eyes. I think fish get accustomed to seeing the same ole lures, jigs, rigs and tend to shy from what we caught them on last year? One of us keeps taking about a new rig he's trying and is keeping it under his hat. Use your imagination an try a new twist. The beds you've vertical jigged in the past not working with that same jig no mater what color tail you try. Put a nibble on it, new color, bigger jig. bigger tail. They sure won't bite any less. I've even read an article recently where a guy has tried using his down or side image to find his beds, then throw a marker near it, then turning them off to see if the fish are becoming sensitive to the sonar and leaving the bed. I want to personally try this one. You can always feel the uprights of the bed with your jig to make sure your still over it, your maker will keep you in the neighborhood.
