thanks everyone. I actually don't live too far from Ivan. I live right off bellevue near dogwood so i may give it a shot! Has anyone jigged with a cane pole? I wouldn't call what i have a true cane pole, but it's the same concept. I found a great tackle shop ( bacons tackle ) that sells some nice home made jigs.

Welcome to the best crappie fishing forum in the world. All of the lakes mentioned are good crappie lakes. Most of them are also good bream, bass, and catfish lakes as well. You should have no trouble finding a mess of fish. I used to fish Cypress, between Benton and Bossier City. There are some very good crappie in there as well as bluegills and chinquapins. It is also loaded with lots of catfish. Just bait up some noodles and throw them out. You will be chasing catfish all over the lake. Good luck. Thank you for serving our great country. PM me your address and I will mail you some of my hand-tied jigs. No charge.

The dogwood lake dam broke a few years ago and the lake nearly drained dry, I think it's been fixed, but not sure if the fish have recovered.

I live a stones throw from red chute, grew up fishing it. When the water is way up, like now, it can be awesome.
If you walk the levee, there are drain pipes that flow into the bayou. When the water is up to the pipe opening, throw a chartreuse h&h out in middle of the bayou and pull it back right in front of the pipe, sometimes it's every cast.

Not crappie, but bass, we call them red eyes. Not sure if they are Kentucky bass, but they are small, with red eyes, and taste better than largemouth.

I live pretty much next door to the gas station in dogwood so walking the levee would be great. Do you walk the side towards the water treatment or the other way?

Well didn't have too much luck, walked about 1/4 mile Down The levee and saw fish jumping. I threw some red minnows out and a jig but no bites. You could see the cats and gars but they were teasing me.
