I thought the same thing.....I am half deaf but amazingly I can hear that bead click against the rod ....and to me a glass bead is louder than a plastic one. I use a 5 mm glass bead

Ya'll must hear better then me, I can't hear a beep on my Humminbird that about 2' from me let alone a bead at the end of a 12' rod! I'll stick with the CrappiePappy method :-)))))

Shu - thats the best response to this thread yet..................
Just amazing - 7 pages with varying amount of responses to a way of dedecting when a Spec bites.
Very interesting - entertaining - the amount of thought process gone into this style of fishing. I applaud all that have
answered. I have not tried method yet personally but as soon as body is able - you can make book on it - there will be at
least 10 rods of mine in water with as many ways mentioned from plastic to glass to various sizes - braid and/or
mono line used - location on rods - on main or stretched tight on secondary line - i will employ use of hearing aids on and
off head to detect best sound.
As we age - our sight & sound diminishes -hence we need the added assistance.
I have noticed over past couple years - my reaction time (eye to hand time) to the hit has also dropped off quite a bit.
Still able to know and react to pole (16 ft) being almost bent in half under water -that is a hit, but is also much hard to get
rod out of holder to bring fish in.
Again, a tip of the hat to all that have been involved with this thread - i await with antisipation for each
response -It makes my day much brighter.
As the great fisherman, Shakespeare, once said, "To bead or not to bead, that is the question".

It it is the wire with eye on end of it that you attach to rod tip - you run line through so as when fish hits hook or bait
below the spring action of wire under tension jumps up - Possible good for ice fishing - not so sure when spider rigging
with 8 - 10 rods out - haven't seen those since leaving Indiana back in 1993.
How many have just very lightly layed finger tips on eva foam end of rods, just past reels - you can actually feel the
hit before you see the rod tip move....... first tried that about 15 yr ago, teaching of an old timer
