the view is better from the backroads
Yep, painted trees are pretty visible by eye if you know the basic boundaries. You can look at the map on COE site as well for Arkabutla. Won't do any good to print it out, but online you can zoom in. Another benefit to knowing your boundary lines is once out of corp boundary and as long as your on public (or your private) land the 12" length / 15 creel limit doesn't apply. If I'm correct it goes to a state 10" length / 30 creel. Just can't take them back inside Corp boundary (example one of the boat ramps) around the lake.
How u going to see the painted trees they 10 feet under water. Go ahead and keep a 10 inch fish cause it's on private land and when the warden checks u call me cause I would love to hear how your going to get out of this.

No matter how much water gets in that lake it's still a Coe lake
I will send an email to MDWFP and inquire. I will post the response. I was informed that once outside of boundaries it did not apply by a warden. Of course, this was dealing with creeks. North of 304 on hurricane and North of clifton on musaacuna creek. Not sure about flooded land spilling outside of the boundary. Not trying to misinform anyone, that's why I used the words "if I'm correct". And no, the shortest fish I've kept so far has been 12 1/2" inside the boundary. Be nice to know for sure and it will go well with the topic here.
Truth be known, that game warden ran you off so you wouldn't be fishing were he was fishing.
Slabin, you made an excellent point about the painted markings on the trees...and mississippi and Snubbys, I know very well about COE Lake boundary markings as well as the maps that are available......this conversation started (I thought) about TRESPASSING, and not about keeping illegal fish! I'm bowing out of this thread, gentlemen, an anyway "G" is gonna can this thread once everybody has their say!
Meant no offense to you armyman. If you took it that way I apologize, sincerely. And yes some markers are not visible, but most I've seen are along the main roads. I think OP brought up a good topic, and I don't condone keeping illegal fish at all. If I was in the position I could be writing 20 tickets a day from what I've seen, ranging from trespassing to questionable legal fish. A lot of people fishing a lot of places they shouldn't right now. I almost got off the public road bed myself under a warden luckily corrected my possible mistake. Like ms said lot of land to fish does not make it legal to fish.. and information informs all. You know about the boundaries more then I do I'm sure of that. :-)
i use to fish a gravel pit that butla backed up into when high like now. full of huge grenbacks. and they would flatout smack a small spinner bait when pulled thru the flooded grass along the bank. one day the lady that owned it showed up and kindly asked who gave us permission to fish. we gave our apologies and told her we didnt realize we needed permission since the lake was in it. she was very nice and told us to stop by her place the next day and she would give us written permission, which we did. and she did.
