Water pump replacement problems.
Trying to install impeller on my 1988 60 hp Mariner.When I dropped the lower unit the 2 inch piece of foam type pipe was on the top of the water pump. Obviously worn out so I ordered a new one and got this 2 3/4 inch piece of plastic. Question is where does it go and how do I install it? I thought it was a guide for the water pipe but really have no idea. Help!

The water pipe will not come out of the pump housing, should I force it out? And thanks for the reply.

Finally got it done. Once I forced the water pipe out of the pump it all fell in place.
