Boat wiring

Hey fellows, I have an 87 Venture 18 ft Tournament Edition. I have just installed a new wiring harness and now an having issues with my alarm. When I turn the key on it is supposed to churp twice, unless there is a problem. Then it stays on constantly, well it is staying on constantly. I can't figure out what it is. I made doubly sure that I didn't cut anything that ran back to the motor or to the ignition switch. I have checked and I didn't cut the wire that runs to the temp gauge. The wire that runs to the oil injection sensor I did cut the end off of it but I also didn't know that it went to that, but it wasn't hooked to anything. I used it for my keyed power for my new GPS speedometer. Is that we're I messed up at? Sorry for the long post but I need help with this, please.

It could be that wire as a steady alarm indicates an oil problem. Has the VRO been disabled and that's why it was disconnected? What motor is it?

What is the VRO? It was working fine three days before that when I was trying to figure what I could disconnect and remove. I have obviously cut something I shouldn't have, just can't figure out what. It doesn't appear that the temp gauge runs through the alarm, only the oil level. There is a tan wire and a purple wire. They both run back to some sort of black box on the motor that is filled with black apoxy. The purple wires run to the back of most of my gauges. The tan wire wasn't hooked to anything. when I switch the key on it has 12 volts at the end. I'm lost.

You really need to give more accurate info on what you are working on. Motor brand, hp, year model, etc. I'm guessing by your description that it is a mercury/mariner motor. If you are using a wire out of the 'black box' for a power source, that is most likely your problem. Mercury uses a small black alarm box to tie all the sensors into one. The constant buzzer would normally indicate an overheat condition but if you are running current through it, there's no telling what signal is being sent to the buzzer.

I apologize, the motor is also an 87, mariner 175. I unplugged the wire that I was using to power my speedometer and let it sit during dinner and my buzzer quit going off. I appreciate the responses. Now another problem I am having is back feed through my grounds, I believe. When I power my trim and release the button my LED lights that added in my boat flash for a split second. Is that what is causing that? I'm sorry if I'm not giving enough info, just ask if you need more.

Check ground connections at the battery for corrosion. This problem can be caused by any number of bad connections in the system.

VRO is the Variable rate oiler. A lot of people disconnect them and mix the oil in the tank. If you don't have a tank for oil then you don't have one or its been removed.
