Remember shortly after moving to Florida there was a special ran on tv here about the FWC sending Florida strain Largemouth to False River and they predicted a World Record with all the food in that lake. Then I heard a few years later on here they nuked the weeds and ruined all hopes. We fished the barrow pits and sloughs in Morganza for Sacalait when I was there. Lots of em in em back then. We always struck out in the morning for Old River but never made it that far.
As the grass went and the silt came in the fishing died off. Had a number of big Florida bass come out of it. And you could catch as many chinquapins as you wanted. The silt did them in. They have just dug the silt out of the south end and made an island with it. Going to do the north end also. Took a long time, but they are finally trying to save it. I hope it works, 15 minutes through the cane fields from my house.
