Default some things take a long time

Back in the Old Days of CB Radio, Middle 70s, I like many others jumped into CB Radio. When I sent off to get a license I checked the box for Radio control devices similar to drones or helicopters or aircraft. Now in 2016, forty-five years later, I finally bought my first radio controlled airplane! My choice of aircraft is a sea plane called a PBY Catalina with a wing span just under five foot. It is a model that is ready-to-fly out of the box. However, I will have to do a little work to make sure that the aircraft is watertight. It's maiden voyage the little sea plane will be lifting from the surface of Lake D'Arbonne in about a week. I don't plan to make the maiden launch from the water on the weekend because I don't want to distract crappie fishermen. Nobobdy needs to fall out of a boat. If you happen to see my "maiden voyage", you will be at the right place at the wrong time! What ya'll think?

It's been 30 years since I been to Darbone or there abouts I went to college in Ruston and we used to go to a landing off 33 and rent a bateau for 1.50 a day and go either pop a bug or drown some shiners. The thing I remember the lake was full of standing dead timber be careful. That is if they are still standing.

My CB handle was captain cajun which got boiled down to Cappy which became my nickname. I even remember my CB call sign for some reason it stuck in my brain unlike old phone numbers and stuff.

Boy, do I remember those days. Big fun. My handle was "Bushwacker" on the CB. I built those model planes and installed a small rotax engines on them, they would just scream. Balsa wood kits where I would lay out a large sheet of thick cardboard, straight pins would hold the struts while I applied the spars. Finish off with what they called "silkspan", soaked in water and once applied and dried was tight as a drum. They where slick, enjoying remembering that.

Also was learning how to fly actual aircraft at the same time which required a radio license. I believe I can still recite the alphabet - alpha, beta, Charlie, delta, echo, foxtrot, golf, hotel, etc. The first aircraft I flew and soloed in was N704ZX - zulu x-ray. I enjoyed calling out "704 zulu x-ray on final" on the radio prior to landing. Thanks for the memories FOL. Please post a picture of that plane.

Whisky Tango Foxtrot! I thought no one remembered the alphabet any more. We used it on the water on occasion.

Do you still chat.....I have a CB in my truck & car with power mikes......great for keeping up with road conditions....saved me many times getting around stalled traffic.....and that happens plenty here around Baton Rouge as we do not have a loop around the city.....
