Actually, no ... it's a "morone" (temperate bass family) ... but, your point is taken.
And I "somewhat" agree with you on the idea that Crappie will chase or ambush a lure going at a good speed (burn the lure) ... considering that they will & do hit jigs & cranks running at ~2mph or more. To me, that's pretty fast, and not the normal speed of any of the fish's prey species.
I've even had a Crappie "chase down" my Roadrunner, when I was reeling it in fast to get off another cast to my selected spot before the wind could blow my boat out of position. So, yeah ... if they want it bad enough, they'll kick in the afterburners and chase it down. It's not their "normal" modus operandi, but it does happen.
