That's not a flier! Fliers don't have the redear. This is a flier.
Fliers must have heavy vegetation and high tannic acid waters to survive. They are found primarily in swampy waters. We catch them all the time. Your fish is some type of sunfish, but hard to tell after being on ice and without more info.

Didn't look much like a Flier to me, either. I'm more curious about the rear dorsal fin being pointed, as Fliers and most other sunfish have a rounded rear dorsal fin. Well, except for the Redbreast Sunfish, which does have a pointed peak on the rear dorsal fin.
Ain't no cross species of a Crappie & sunfish of ANY kind, as that don't happen. Could be a cross between a Redear & something else .... or possibly just a Redear with different coloration that normal.![]()

Is there a filter on the picture? Kinda hard to tell with it being washed out like that, but looks like a redear.
I would say Redear or maybe a Redear hybrid atleast .

Female redear. Maybe crossed with another sunfish species.
Sunfish and crappies CANNOT cross. Thatd be like a squirrel and a rabbit crossbreading... Not possible.
