Default Frustrating Experience with Humminbird Customer Service

Contacted Humminbird customer service through their chat on their website regarding exchanging my stock 455khz transducer that came with my 899, for the 800khz. Since my transducer is used, they said I was unable to send it in for exchange. This I understand, but the lack of information regarding the exchange program, coupled with the lack of help/information from the service rep, I will be selling my 'birds and taking my business to Lowrance. On top of everything, the service rep asked if I needed any other help and as I am typing a reply, ended the conversation.

Below is our conversation, maybe by posting this I can bring awareness to Humminbird's lack of customer service. I will also be contacting Humminbird by phone this afternoon to speak to a customer service manager.

I have an 899si/di with a 455khz transducer. What would be the model number for the 800khz transducer that will work with this model? Does Humminbird offer an exchange program for my current transducer?12:25 PM

so it has to be unused to be able to exchange?12:29 PM

    That is correct12:30 PM

I wish Humminbird offered more information about the difference in quality between the two. If I would have known, I wouldnt have purchased the 899 due to the lack of quality in the picture. Also, knowing that there is an exchange program for this before I had used the unit would have been beneficial as well.12:31 PM

This transducer is $269.99!! and because of the lack of information available, I now have to pay this instead of $85.00?12:34 PM

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do apologize for what has happened.12:40 PM

    DCALDWELL
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats it? An apology will not offset the $184.99 difference. If there is nothing that Humminbird can do to help me out, then I will hang on to my money and take my business to Lowrance.12:42 PM

There is an insert that is enclosed in the box about the transducer exchange. 12:49 PM

I don't get it...what would you like Humminbird to do? They're correct there is an insert in the box that tells you of the transducer exchange program. They waited 10 minutes for you to reply before ending the conversation. This is like buying a pair of pants, wearing them for a month, then seeing a more comfortable pair on the shelf and expecting the store to give you the more comfortable pair for free

Where is the lack of customer service or help by the agent, did you want them to buy it for you ? They waited 8 minutes from your last post before they ended it, I'm sure there were other customers waiting to speak with him that they needed to attend to. I find that if I am needing any info about a product I research it and I come on here and ask questions before I purchase it to see if it will meet my needs and what it will or wont do for me. If it doesn't and I did ask questions before hand then I figure that it is my fault and not try and blame it on a customer service rep for not doing what I should have in the first place.

I think Humminbird handled this as well as they could... They were quite willing to make an exchange based on the rules they have established. It is a really tough break that you didn't happen to see the insert they referred to in the original packaging, but that isn't Humminbird's fault. Here is something you may want to consider....I went to a Humminbird seminar this weekend, and the factory reps said most guys trade the stock transducer for the HD model thinking they will get better pics, but they said the pics aren't that much better, and they all think it is a waste of money.

Humminbird had great CSR as always. By the way I have the 800 HDSI transducer and run it mostly on the 455. The quality of the picture is in the eye of the beholder. Good luck with Lowrance CSR. For the money cant beat Humminbird, but in a decent Lowrance range you better off to buy a Garmin which has best technology at this time. Sorry for your trouble.

A lot of guys have gave up on Lowrance because of their CS. Don't know if they are better now or not but I can't see them being much better Humminbird's CS.

They aren't perfect but they have managed to keep me happy overall.

Funny, went through a version of this Last week and still without a transducer. Called customer service (1/2 hour on hold) 2 Mondays ago and inquired about the exchange program. The person I talked to said I could send it in so I did that morning priority mail. Figured it would get there midweek and the new transducer would be here the following Monday. Monday came and went, then Tuesday I gave up after ups came and no transducer. I gave them a call (45 minutes on hold this time) and asked about the transducer. They said they recieved mine and I was in cue for the exchange. When I asked when I would get it they said "oh that's our most popular transducer and it won't be shipped until the end of April" ! Who spends $1000 on a fishfinder and is willing to have it sit unused for two months? She then said I could check online for the hdsi and maybe sell mine on ebay? She said "weren't you told about this when you called?" I replied " there is no way I would have agreed to that" "I was never told of that issue" . I then asked to have mine sent back to me and was no longer interested in the exchange. She called the exchange department and they weren't able to find mine. She assured me that it was there but couldn't be located as there was a huge pile of them. When I asked when I could expect it she said it should go out tomorrow if they can find it in time. What the hell? Good customer service would have been to pull a brand new transducer off the shelf and insure me it would be sent right out. This happened yesterday and I'm waiting on confirmation that my original transducer is on its way back. I went fishing today with out a sonar and $1000 poorer.

Gone-fishin, if you think that was poor customer service I can't wait for the post on your experience with Lowrance. Dealing with them is the worst customer service experience I have ever had with any product, not just electronics.
