Default Heading sensor placement and 360

Transom mount 360 units come with a HS GPS puck, my question is should the HS puck be mounted as close to the 360 unit as possible or can it be mounted up in the bow and do double duty working over the TM ?

I have a 1198 mounted at the helm with its own gps puck at the transom, then a second station set up at the bow with transducer on the trolling motor and a gps puck

I'm going to add an 1159 DI unit to the bow (real pain moving it all the time from the helm to the bow and back) so hence the question of if HS puck can do double duty mounted at the bow.

my wash tub is 17ft long so I'm sure there is an offset of 17ft, but other than that will the 360 and the 1100's read from the HS at the bow

also will I be able to use the bow gps puck with bow locator and the transom puck with the transom transducer for the helm unit say when on plane moving from place to place

Oh all are to be linked with a 5 port Ethernet switch

as soon as I'm sure this will all work together I'm pulling the plug with Brian at BBG

as always thanks to all for your help

also when using the bow locator in split screen 2d/360 won't the 2d be more accurate with the HS puck at the TM ?

    again thanks to all

Short grub, the 360 doesn't require a GPS /hs to operate.also , you can use just one GPS , that's shared by the network. If that's what you want but I think that which ever unit has the gps, that you share, has to be turned on to alow the sharing through the ether net switch.

Man , Kosmo I wish I knew you didn't have to use that extra puck. It is different than the puck on my 1198 so I called HB and they told me mine had to be installed. So I have two pucks at the console. Well they are mounted now so ill live with it.

This is my 360, running without gps and no 2nd transducer.....to get full functionality from the 360, you need a 2nd transducer and a GPS with a heading sensor.

I would ask Greg at HB his thoughts on this.
One reason for the HS GPS puck is "no more donut hole" at less than .6mph boat speed. The 360 works at 0.0mph.

The HS puck is only used to accurately mark new waypoints on the 360 view...

360 will operate without the HS puck ...just like kosmo says...

Its the same as any sonar unit will operate without a GPS antenna attached...there just will be no option for anything to do with a chart or GPS related...

360 is "Sonar" ...not "GPS"... (2 completely different animals)...

Option 1...IF you're going to mark waypoints on the 360 view...
Mount the HS puck at the transom and let it provide GPS for the transom 360 and the transom mount HDSI...

Make do at the bow with a regular GPS antenna until you can get another HS for the bow...

Option 2...IF you're not going to mark waypoints on the 360 view....
Mount the HS puck at the bow for better boat positoning on the bow unit ...

Use the regular GPS antenna for the helm unit...no GPS connnected to the 360...

Here's a tip.....If a person wants, he can take the 360, along with a humminbird control head unit (that is ethenet capable) and transfer them to a smaller boat or kayak to use in smaller water ponds or small lakes, transducers and gps are not required, just optional.using this setup, you can see structure, fish, contour changes and be able to keep your kayak/boat positioned accordingly
