Thumbs down POVERTY POINT A ZERO

Well not quite a zero, but almost. My 92 year old partner and I decided to try a half day trip to Delhi yesterday and were rewarded with two small specs and 6 yellow bass. Except for an occasional rumor of a fair catch during the spawn, this lake has really "gone to pot". I know all new lakes have a good life cycle of ten years or so, but I can't help thinking that the earlier years in which limits were ignored by fishermen and enforcement was
practically non-existent have taken a heavy toll on this once great crappie lake.......should have gotten a clue when we pulled up at the south boat ramp and there was only 3 rigs there and one was leaving, but no one has ever accused me of being too smart when it comes to fishing......

I hate to hear that B&M BOBM. It is never fun to drive a long way and come home empty handed. I do, however, hope you enjoyed some great companionship while driving and fishing. I think you may be right about Poverty Point. A few years ago I heard story after story of people catching 2,3, or even 4 limits on Poverty Point; sometimes for several days in a row. I even had people tell me of catching a limit and calling someone to come get them at the ramp and then they would go catch another 25. I know that people will argue that you can't fish out a lake the size of Poverty Point. I am not a biologist so have no professional experience. However, more and more I am reading of bad fishing reports on Poverty. WHY?

Hasn't been good in the last three years really, but it gets hammered during the spawn and winter when the crappie school up.

Wasn't there a fella on here who caught some nice ones up there, close to three pounds, and posted his pictures? I thought it was last year.

It has slowed down the last 3 to 4 years, but you can still catch them. I have some friends that do it every year. It takes a lot of patience
and some good electronics. Don't forget the shiners!!

They are catching some at PP but mostly in the marina in the boat slips. My brother has a slip and been catching some nice ones.

Oh it's still produces fish and some slabs at that, but it's not as easy to catch em now. They catch a lot at the boat slips and mostly at night. Only the ones that rent a slip can get in at night and fish from the dock, you can fish the slips at night from a boat you just can't move anyone's boat, I've heard there have been some altercations between some folks over it. Lol. Not surprised because during the spring I've heard of some altercations between folks in the boats too. Just ask blue thunder. Lol.

Yep, some folks don't take kindly to you catching their fish off their dock. I've been fussed at Old River and fishing the diversion canal the folks will come out and turn their dock lights off.

If you don't rent a slip your not suppose to fish from them; just from a boat. Also there is a creek channel running through them; only a few of them are the best fishing. I haven't been there in three years or so but I may go next spring.
