Default A Quick Trip with Rooty

This has been a heck of a long week. The hustle and bustle of life is taking its toll on this ol' boy. Between work, playing music, and building a house we have been a busy bunch. With all the fun, stress, excitement, and about every other feeling one can experience, I've missed my time in the woods and on the water. I've always known a time would come when my hunting and fishing would suffer, but going weeks without either is something I'm not accustomed to. Hopefully things will slow down in the near future! After all, being off the beaten path is what keeps me sane.

Yesterday I slipped away from the office at a decent hour and managed a quick trip on the water. It was a beautiful evening! Dead calm with warm temperatures. I only had time to fish a couple spots near the ramp but I managed to find a few fish willing to bite. Nothing to write home about, but it was an enjoyable outing. On my second stop I broke out the secret weapon, an old school yellar RootyTooty. At least that's what I call it. The first drop and I had one sniffing it. A premature hook set yielded nothing. Second drop and that unforgettable thump yielded a healthy chunk. What a feeling!

The fish are definitely in transition mode. I believe a lot fish are chasing bait in all depths of water right now. Some fish are still holding tight to cover as well. I believe early and late the fish are widely scattered in my area of the lake. Once the sun pushes bait down the fish follow and hold tighter to cover. Hope everyone is catching boat loads!

Good job Derrick. When I saw your title I thought you had slipped down to Santee with Tommy. And I thought Gerald Cromer was the only one that still had the old Rooty Tooty jigs. They catch fish that is for sure. The new ones do too.

My thread title is a little confusing. Ray, although I do have a good stash of old Rootys, the ones that I have been fishing are part of the latest and greatest line. Thanks again Tommy!

I've used many baits, but find it hard not to have a Rooty Tooty tied on when it comes to vertically jigging, or tight lining. Thanks for the pics and post CB
