Rees, we have two crappie guides (Ranger 09, EB) here in Oklahoma that say you can't get a better knife than the American Angler 12 volt.

I have rapala, mister twister salt water edition, and an american angler. My american angler is about 10yrs old and still going. It is so much more powerful and 10x the rpms that the other 2 have, and maybe even combined! Problem is now is the new american anglers are so expensive. I bought mine new for $20. I lost the american angler, so i bought the rapala, it did ok but hurt my wrist because of lack of speed and power. So i got the mister twister salt water edition, it was alot more powerful than rapala, and i thot that was the ticket until.... I found my american angler again just this yr. There is seriously no comparison. Ya dont even hafta push the blade at all. This is just my personal opinion, and i dont get anything from advertisement, and totally non biased in the beginning of my experiments. Now i have a pretty strong opinion. I hope i dont offend anyone. But the question was asked, so i answered.

Those will not last a year..

I'm trying a new American anglers with metal gears ..
    Time will tell.

The OLD Mister twister were great .When they went to plastic gears they were sorry .
    I've tried them all.

Some old knives off ebay that have metal blade connection and gears are great .
Just have to learn how to resharpen blades
