You'll know when you catch a black with 100 foot of line out, he aint coming up!!!!! I catch very few blacks but have one lake we fish from time to time that is mostly black in it, wont catch a bunch but what we catch is fun!!!!

Lot of this on Martin.
Just so you know, I also cranked around the first island north and west of the Dam. Never a hit there either. Only way we could buy a bite was single poling and they were all bass. You can't tell me cranking won't work there. I think I would go to light colors. The only problem with Lake martin is that is so clear. I bet the fish can see the bottom of the boat at 20ft deep. I know we could see bass holding on structure way deep.

We did run up pretty close to the island just to try some shallower water. I think on the west end of the island it was a little ways out till it dropped off. On the north end of the island, I am thinking we could get pretty close to the island and still have pretty deep water.

Do yall have a thermocline over there, they may just be flat out deep?!!! Might have to weight em down to get to them. When we were over there several years ago I was surprised how clear it was, may be a factor for sure.

I had a pearl on the other day for four hrs and never got a hit on it. The solid black and black and chrome belly were the hot colors.

You probably got it nailed. You could catch those fish high in the water column without spooking them with the boat.
