Since my truck is literally only used to hunt and fish out of I only change it when the light comes on which is normally around 7500 miles and it ain't too bad then! Them vortec motors are good, the transmission, tcase, and rear end in em ain't worth a flip!

You will never regret the money you spend on synthetic in that diesel. Or any other motor, for that matter. Put six quarts of Castrol full synthetic in my 2011 Cheby gasser every 10k. That about every 2 months. Got 89,000 on it now.

Synthetic oil is the best thing since sliced bread. I know cars that have gone 45k miles without a single oil change (not mine). They have had their heads/cams inspected, and no damage or wear was detected. Anyone that waits 3 years and 45k miles for an oil change should have their head inspected!

Synthetic oil does not break down. It lasts just about forever. Only particles (carbon or otherwise) will contaminate it. But that's what the oil filter is for. Yeah eventually it does need replacing. I change my oil one a year no matter what or how many miles. I also try to get it changed before winter so that it's fresh with the least moisture in it. Moisture in engines in cold weather is a bad thing. And its a big problem for those that only make short drives. They need to get good and hot in the winter to burn that moisture off.

Yep--only problem I had on the Tahoe was the intake gasket leak that sent coolant into the oil. Put Felpro racing gaskets on it no more problems. The motor was great but the rest of that thing was crap. Tcase went out and traded it in for the explorer.

On all my gasser vehicles I may change it once or twice a year--I never get in a hurry to--never have any issues. On this 6.0--that's a different story with the main reason being it uses high pressure oil (from 540 psi to 4000 psi) to operate the injectors (yep same oil that lubes the engine) so this thing will take a 40 oil and shear it to a 30 pretty quick--it is a fascinating engine for sure

15 quarts in my 7.3. Usually get it done for around $100 whether I do it myself or let someone else do it. Change it every 5k to 10k miles. Keep her full in between.

Very little. Change filter, add oil to the full mark.
