just my get get a package of meat from the store with a weight on it close to 3 lbs, put it on your wifes scales and see how it compares to what is on the package. You wont have to wondered forever what the fish weighed as it should give a really close estimate if your fish weight was right.

I checked my digital scales with 1/2 ounce egg sinkers. They were pretty close.

You caught a really nice fish. I'd be proud of it. It makes a better story the way it played out. I have a retired buddy that has been crappie fishing since he was a kid and that's all he fishes for. He fish'es year round and has never caught a three lb crappie until this year. This year he caught three. There's still one out there.
