My hands do the same. The way I correct the cracks and bleeding is to put lotion such as corn buskers on my hands and then put on surgical gloves just before going to bed. I sleep in the gloves. I used to put lanolin on instead of lotion but can't get it any more

Gonna try this. Had several good fishing days in a row a few weeks ago and my hands were shredded.

When mine get really shredded from duck hunting or fishing I use Neosporin or the equate stuff. Rub in good then wipe off. Seems to heal up faster.

FWIW, I had the same condition every winter. My hands would be fine, and an hour later, I'd look down and they'd be cracked open and pouring blood, and I never even felt it. One Dermatologist used some kind of Psoriasis machine (an Xray focused on hands, some way) and it worked fine...........for about an hour! My current dermatologist said "Yeah, me and my Dad have that too. Sucks, doesn't it?" and that's his "professional" answer.

One day at church, I forgot my pocket hand lotion. Lady let me borrow Neutragena Swedish Brand (or some such, it ain't actually Swedish) hand cream. It is almost a paste. Every other hand cream was a lotion. This stuff is amazing. You rub it on your hands, and then do NOT touch anything for about 2 minutes. It dries, and it puts like a 'shield' on your hands.

The trick is.......once this starts.........you have to put this stuff on (or any other stuff that you use) to moisten your hand skin constantly. Put it on even when you think "Oh, I finally fixed this". Keep putting it on. I kept a tube of that stuff in every room in the house (next to my 50 pair of reading glasses!! Ha), in my truck, in the boat, everywhere. I used it nonstop. When I THOUGHT I'd used it enough and I'd stop, it'd eventually come back.

One year I decided to beat this stuff. So I put it on every day, many, many times a day, all winter long. Months and months. Nonstop. Religiously.

That was years ago, and it has never reoccurred.

    That's my advice. Good luck. It's a mess..............I know.

Hey Buckrub thanks for your post. My experience with the dermatologist was basically the same. And I tried everything, O'keefffe's, Utter Butter, Neosporin and or Vaseline with gloves on overnight, everything with no luck until I found http://www.glovesinabottle.com/. I have no dog in the fight for "Gloves in a Bottle" It was just the first thing that worked for me and I use it religiously just as you do Neutrogena. And like you I have bottles of it everywhere, I can't afford to be without it for very long in the winter and put it on at least twice a day but mostly when I see a bottle to remind me. Anybody who has what we do will want something that works, and because I know what it's like to have this problem I wanted to mention something that worked for me. I might also mention that I use it on my face and lips too, better than Chapstick ect. Like you mentioned about Neutrogena it really puts a shield of some kind on your hands and locks in the natural moisture preventing the extremely rapid drying and cracking of your skin, especially around my thumbs. And it's not greasy feeling. Thanks again.

I don't have this condition, but as usual, I have a dumb question. Is the "Gloves In a Bottle" warmer than Thinsulate? :-)

Sorry guys, I just HAD to ask. :-)

Mac, the trick is KEEP YOUR SKIN MOIST TEN TIMES MORE THAN YOU THINK YOU SHOULD.

Use something. Used enough, anything will work.

Most men do NOT use it enough, especially in winter. That's my two cents, and this is one topic that I know about!!! Well........somewhat, anyway!
