Just rubbing plain old petroeum jelly (vasoline) into hands and wipe off excess with an old rag. Your hands will shed water like a duck's back. Years ago while trapping in water we used this trick , could not set traps in gloves.

my hands dont get cracked but they do get so cold cant hardly retie at times!

I found something a couple of years ago that works wonders at preventing this problem and even healing my hands when I forget to use it. Its called "Gloves in a Bottle". I have to use it a couple of times a day for best results, but it's a life saver. I've found it at Kroger Pharmacies, the hospital gift shop, and online.
