Hey guys, to be perfectly clear....I would never suggest that anyone go on any particular eating regiment until they have consulted with their doc and had blood testing done to be sure there are no underlying issues that may not be known. Same holds true with an exercise program if you've not been on one in awhile or are just starting. Always good to have a base line done so you know where you are, BP/Chol.. liver/kidney levels, lipids, electrolites, etc., so you can monitor your results in 6 months and make any necessary adjustments.

I buy into what jimmydee is saying. Having struggled with weight all my life I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 2 years ago. Now I go through spells of doing well and not so well on glucose levels.
About a month ago the dr gave me a steriod pack for another ailment. This drove my levels up so much that I actually stopped eating for 3 days before my blood sugar came down. For the past three weeks I have been eating salads that I wash and cut. Also make up a big bowl of either stir fry or fajitas that I will cook for a meal in an 8" sautee pan. When I eat that there are no seconds to be had. The oils a person uses is very important for good health also. I make a salad dressing from, balsamic vinegar, toasted sesame oil, soy sauce and minced garlic.

Basically besides steel cut oats for bfast m-f and regular bfast on the weekend if I don't wash it, cut it and prepare it I don't eat it. I feel better than I have in years and am punching a new hole in the belt leather every week.

Start small and build to success. Pass the chips and grab almonds.

Downsouth....you da man!! I'm tryin me some of your dressing this week end. More folks shud know bout steel cut oats, and good for you for knowing about them. I like what ur doin and it makes perfect sense. If folks would eat raw veggies and fruits daily, they would find their body 'asking' for them on a regular basis. Takes about 2 weeks but I promise it will. Good health and even better fishin to all.

Steel cut oats are a different critter than any oatmeal you have eaten. I eat alot of them so I have come up with what I think is a very savory recipe.

    1/2 cup heaping s.c oats
    1 tbspoon butter
    1 beef bouillon cube
    3 cups water

Melt butter over medium heat in med. size sauce pan.
Toss steel cut oats in butter and cover bottom of pot evenly.

Let toast until you begin to smell a popcorn like smell. Oats will start to pop alittle.

Stir and look for some caramel coloring on part of the oats. Don't over due the toasting.

Pour water in pot and add bouillon cube.

Turn burner to high until boiling while watching. It will foam over if not turned down.

Turn to medium heat and let contents slow boil stiring often.

Contents will thicken at end of cooking so stir the last few minutes.

Salt and pepper to taste. Easy on salt the bouillon cube did most of the salt already.

You can put more butter if you like but too much will make oats very rich.

This process will take about 30-40 minutes but is easily worked in to a morning routine.

I appreciate you posting the recipe for the steel cut oats. I like oatmeal and have always fixed in the microwave. I tried that with the steel cut kind and it was chewy and not very good, I will give your method a shot. Got to be better than what I did.

Went to the doctor and he told me I was too fat. I told him I wanted to get a second opinion. He said " You're ugly too."!!!!
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
