Well, it's somewhere between 10° and 30°F outside, and the last time I checked, Clarks Hill was thick enough to plow and plant corn on the upper end.
So...as I think about the fishing ahead, let's try and get things started by seeing who catches their first one when (it's the 7th so some of y'all might already have).
I see those temps in the long range forecast flirting with the 60's by the weekend...and even though the water is going to be really cold, I suppose I'm going to ease out there and see if anything bites, even a little.
Clarks Hill ended the year 2.5 ft above full pool...so much for the winter drawdown!![]()
Hope to see some smilin' faces and big crappie soon!

Doesn't look like there has been any caught this year, won't be long before my first trip of the year.

It might be another 2 or 3 weeks before I go again. Just depends on what reports I read.![]()
I'm a little confused.....I guess Al Gore was right about the global warming, yesterday am it was 6 degrees and this am it was 12 degrees. With the wind forecast around 20mph for Saturday, it may be another week before I catch my first one of the year.

Planning on hitting Greenwood Friday so maybe I can get one or two to bite. May have to go downlake depending on what the conditions are. Going to try some of the perch jerking next week here on murray and see if I can remember how to do it, good luck to all and may all my CDC friends have a crappie catching new year
Don't have a pic of the very first fish caught but these were 2 of the better fish caught on the first day of the year.

You have an unfair advantage while fishing in toasty ol'Florida TC. Nice fish all the same.

One rod, one jig, one fish at a time.
Nice fish and color too. It'll be about August for me, the swamp has been flooded since Christmas and going back up again.
