The possible issue will be crosstalk interference...(maybe so - maybe not)...

HB units always fire the 200kHz for digital depth...(even when viewing SI or DI)...

You can turn the sonar off on 1 unit to eliminate crosstalk...

Also if the 2 xducers are at the same orientation to the boat transom...the thin slice beams (of the SI xducer and the DI xducer) can overlap and create crosstalk...

Of course these are just possiblitlies...you may not see any interference at all ...as each boat is different...

You might think about temporarily mounting the xducers with some high bond double stick tape and try them....

    You may get lucky...

If not bring the issues here and we'll work them out...

I just wanted to see if anybody else has done this and if so did you mount the transducers together or apart? Thanks for any info.

I have don't have the $$$$$ for the big units. I already have a 597 and 598 and I was wanting to run the 597 for maps and 2d/di and run the 598 just for si. I may be total off but I'm going to give it a try. I have a 598 si unit up front. Here is a picture of the mount I made and put on the console with both units. If I can't use the 597 for di and 2d I will at least be able to use the it for GPS. I will let you know how it works out.

Ok. Was just wondering why. you probably could sell the two units and come close to having enough for a 898 on sale or maybe a new 899. Somebody had a new 898 & 858 on here for 1400 for the pair used. Sell 3for two

With your idea of SI on the 598 and chart/DI on the 597...you have options even if there is crosstalk interference...

I made a misquote in a previous post...

The 597ci HD DI can be set to which beam to obtain digital depth ...so you may be able to set the 597 to get depth source from the 455kHz DI beam ...and prevent crosstalk with the 598 getting digital depth from the 200kHz...(the 597 may need a certain version software for this option- I'm not sure)...

Even if there is crosstalk...simply press the "Power"'button once and an option to turn off the sonar is available...then that unit can be used as a GPS chartplotter...

It is a good idea to try...You will also have an advantage of still having a unit if one goes out. I had a unit go out in a very good time ...it was tough fishing "blind" . I have never forgot that.
