Default Third trip out with Terova.

They said there's a learning curve with the Terova. I said What? It's a troling motor. What learning curve?

Well, I admit I'm struggling a little bit. In calm water ain't nothin like it. Set it and forget it. Fish and leave the driving to the tm. HOWEVER, if the wind is blowing its another matter. The thing doesn't react fast enough if there's a gust and doesn't stop reacting quickly enough. In a 8 to 10 mph wind it will start swinging wildly from left to right and just get wider and wider. Plus it seems to shut itself off sometimes. If I make a slight adjustment to the direction I look down and the motors not running. Have to turn it off and back on to get it restarted. On manual it's a nice motor. On auto it's either awesome or terrible just according to the situation. Any advice?

btw. I have an 80lb with ipilot. 17 1/2 ft aluminum war eagle.

I have g3 176 about same size boat as yours, I went in and updated my trolling motor and made things better. On spot lock it will ramp up way to fast on your boat . there is a update that will help with that if it isnt already installed on it. It is harder to run than a cable in the wind especially with the remote. I had my remote run down one day and had to get the foot control out, and it has never went back, i use it all the time probably more than the remote. you can set constant speed and auto pilot on it and then adjust with your toe, try it and you will like it. I have the 80lb too

    David,
I have not had the swinging issue but I have had mine cut off. My cutoffs occur when I have the anchor lock set. I will be doing other stuff and notice that I am not sitting where I was and sure enough it had cut off. I have mine on a lanyard around my neck so I thought maybe I hit a button without realizing it. So I set it and laid the remote on the console and it still cut off. I think if the GPS has even a minute interruption it cuts off. I can't think of any other reason for it to cut off.
By the way, be sure to carry a spare battery for the remote. Mine died this week, but it is 2 years old. I get the Energizer 2450 from Walgreens, but you can get one like came with it on line for less.
If you are going directly into the wind it works best. A side wind will drive you crazy.

I always set mine into the wind and it seemed to work better with the wind . When I set up my new boat it will have an electric anchor also.

Clfarms1, thanks for the reply. I really like not having the foot control because of the floor space. But if it works that nice, I may revisit. I'm interested in the updates you spoke of. How does that work? Where is the port to get an uupdate in??? Probably in the manual. Guess I need to find it. Lol

Bama by an electric anchor you mean an physical anchor that is a wench to pick anchor up and down. I just got a 2014 boat. On my 2012 I just had to havem. One on each end. I dispised those things. When I stripped my boat down they went into the shed. I plan to use them to wench deer up for cleaning.

Just ipilot. I'm in the market for a bird. Thinking about an 1199 but where I'd like to buy it its not available yet. So I wait. Anyway, back to the subject, since I don't have the link no up-date???
