Just a few pics from last night's trip. Nothing much to report. One keeper sized fish, a handful of dinks and some bream. Heard that the waterlevel was down but didn't expect it to be this low again. Be careful to launch your boats, the end of the ramp has about 6" of water.

I take it you guys didn't get the rains we had in the Tidewater Region last week? You must have been just far enough NW not to get them. Official total in my area was 17.85"!
What is the deal with the water level? No way that is from evaporation. At least with the back tires falling into the lake you don't have to get your feet wet to launch. Will be nice this winter.
Woodduck you hit it at the wrong time, I fished 7-2 and had a great time. Best bite was early and it got real slow around 11. Lots of fish 5' down most hanging over 10-12 and on points.
Toano got rain--but nowhere near that much. Both LCR and DR are part of the Newport News water system. Today, the stats show there's plenty of water in the lakes that feed directly into the water treatment plant. That takes the pressure off the up-country lakes (DR, LCR, and Chick Lake) to provide the flow. Unless Waterworks has lowered DR for additional repairs, a stretch of rainy weather should help it bounce back.

I didnt see any signs of work at the dam but didnt get very close. I have to think they have drawn it down, 8' over 1200 acres is a whole lot of water lose naturally.
Here's the official word from Waterworks:
We are preparing to implement some warranty repairs on the primary spillway associated with recent overhaul. Also installing some diagnostic seepage equipment. So the drawdown is due to release from our diversion conduit. We are hoping to be done by start of November and the refill will depend on precip. during fall/winter.

Nice job getting an answer. They have a big 2x12 as a cap on top of the spillway to bring it to full pool, wonder if they are gonna make a proper concrete top. Fishing was tremendous last year oct/nov with the low water so I cant say I am too upset about it. Has not seemed to have affected the fish too much. I can say that there are a lot more white perch in the lake then in previous years by my estimation, I caught 10 or more small ones long lining the other day. In the past I have only caught the jumbos pulling cranks.
Those things can destroy a crappie population--and probably the YP, too. They reproduce faster than the more desirable panfish, compete for the same food sources, and feed on the eggs of the desirable species when they spawn. A few of the WP might grow to a usable size and they are good eating, but for lack of food, most of them will be stunted and never reach a harvestable size. Every one caught should be tossed in the woods, killed and returned to the lake to feed the fish hawks and turtles, or used as cut-bait to fish for monster-size gars.

Good to know. I have seen some videos of boys further south fishing for them and they seem like a bunch of fun to catch in the 2-3 lb range.
