Caught 35 yesterday in brush off the main channel. Couldn't hold the boat and camera to take pictures. I think the biggest was 12''. We brought 11 home. We didn't have any luck casting. All fish were caught jigging. Best color was Chart/BL. Fish were caught in 20'-23' anywhere from 5' to 15' suspended.
Hope to go again this week. Got a few more of Curtiss' jigs in the mail today..

PS: Sheila, we did put in at Mormons.

Glad y'all gettin into some bigguns! the Blackwater side has always seemed to hold more bigguns than the Roanoke! Caught my first SML crappie out from Penhook back in 1965! Gills creek is still one of the best spawnin creeks on the lake, IMHO! DonG, y'all get any off docks yet!

That's great Don. The wind was a bear here at the house Sunday, 15 miles from Hardy Rd ramp, so I'm sure it was really bad on the water.

We've caught most of our good ones from deep water docks the last 3 weeks at Blackwater. Jigging, only a couple were picked up casting. I've been practicing my dock shooting a lot, get about 1 out of every 5 where I want it. Lol. We haven't picked up but 1 keeper from any blow downs at Blackwater yet. I saw an awful lot of fish suspended all around mouth of channels but didn't get any to bite there.

I've been keeping records, kind of, since last fall and in November is when we finally caught enough to need to be sure of the count. And they were all about a foot deep on top of tree limbs. That was fun! We've still got so much to learn...but in our ignorance we've stumbled upon some good spots and learn something every time we go out (which is every weekend that its not storming with lightening or the river isn't frozen). Biggest thing I've learned is don't believe any old wives tales. We always catch some when I tell Bill (hubby) we won't catch anything because the wind is from the north, the front just passed, the cows are laying down, the moon isn't right and so on. Ha! Someone on here told me awhile back not to bother with all the learning and just go when we can go, and that's pretty much what we do.

We're going to try Roanoke on Saturday but we go in at Hardy Rd. ramp by Bay Roc. Don't know if we'll get up far enough to see you. If we do just look for my 'crappie' colored hair, you can't miss it!

...gotta look up Gills Creek now...
