Thread: Whoop! My personal best so far...

Hi all. We've been to Smith Mountain Lake (Blackwater) the last 3 weekends and haven't been tearing them up by any means but we've gotten some really nice ones. Got my biggest ever today, two in a row too! Was so excited I texted the picture to my daughter forgetting we'd gone out at the crack of dawn and she probably wasn't anywhere near ready to be woken up yet. Oops!

pics below - Oct 6th my brother and his wife from Arkansas were in for a few days to visit and we got 5 nice ones (and with some from the freezer had an excellent supper!) and a number of smaller ones we threw back to grow up. Last weekend, the 11th, hubby got 2 really nice ones, we tossed those back, they sure were 'purty ' the rest that day were all 6 or 8"

Today we got 6 nice ones (and a whole bunch of smaller ones) and my biggest ever at 2.2 pounds with another close to the same size right behind it. (Sorry guys, no way were they getting thrown back, they're gonna be my celebration supper!). All 3 weekends it was only 2 baits that got any bites - a lemon yellow colored Southern Pro "Glow" chartreuse tube (it really looks lemony compared to my other char baits) and a black and red 'power' grub I think it's called with chartreuse sparkle curly tail. Today they were all in about 20 fow sitting on the bottom. Water was about 65 degrees, wind was 15 mph (ugh). Using Curtis' litewire hooks (love those!) 1/16 fishhead shaped jigs. Pressure was 29.85. Did I forget any details?

Its been a great 3 weekends...and I'm thinking another couple weeks should be a bonanza, they're in their kind-of pre-spawn areas now.
