Talked to a fellow that hit the Cashie last Wednesday, and he feels that crappie have started to move into the creek. He isn't much of a talker so I'm going to see what's going on there within the next week, weather permitting. I have also heard that Conaby Creek near Plymouth is producing some decent fish.

I would like to tell you that I had a report worthwhile for you from Bennets but I would be lying. I got to the ramp and the duckweed was so thick you could walk across it. Made a loop in the parking lot and headed back to Hertford. Got the boat in the water and my cranking battery was dead. Swapped a battery from the trolling motor and then my motor would turn over but not fire. Guess that's what happens when an old motor sits up for a while. Didn't feel like messing with it so I just hooked my two good batteries back up to the trolling motor and fished left and right of the boat ramp. Lo and behold, I found some fish. Little bit of everything. Crappie, white perch, yellow perch, bass, rock, bream and shell crackers. Caught 6 crappie, 3 of which were tween 10 and 11 inches. The suprise of the day was the white perch. I prolly caught about 50 or so. And they were, for the most part, nice big fat fish. A lot more nicer fish than we caught this summer. Most of wm were over 10". The wind was a little rough and had debris floating all in the water. It made for a lot of work, but the fish kept a piss poor day from getting any worse. All in all, I can't complain, caught plenty of fish and never burned any gas in the boat.

Way to turn it around TR. I had pretty much the same thing happen to me Sunday before last when I went. Had just enough juice to work tilt. went to hit the key and one little bump is all I could get. No jumper cables, trolling batteries were charges so I just slid the boat off the trailer and headed out in the creek. Had a buddy that was there bring me a jump pack and let me keep it the rest of the day. It worked great and I'm glad he let me keep it because it had to be used 3 more times that day.

Nice catch of fish. It seems like this time of year, if You find white perch, they are huge. What size was the yellow perch? any size to the shell crackers? rock? How deep were they out from the ramp? that is a deep hole to be catching fish? they must have been suspended.CF

The yellow perch were actually on the small side. Real small except for one 10"er but a long ways away from what I usually catch in that area. Most of the fish were either on the point to the left of the ramp or just off the breaks near the two channel markers where I have told you I usually fish. I can't really tell you the actual depth, cause with a dead battery I was fishing blind. No fishfinder, side imaging or GPS. Had to use landmarks when I hooked a fish to make another pass but it seemed pretty reliable so I think a decent school was there. But judging from past experience, I would say 8 to 12 FOW. Fished 4 to 6 feet deep. The shell crackers weren't huge but were decent. Big enough to eat for sure. I kept a handful for the guy I carry fish to. The crappy I caught were in the deeper of the water closer to the break around some stumps I have marked before. The rock won't but 16". White, orange or red, all with chartreuse tails seemed to be the best colors. Especially the orange/chart and red/chart. they were hungry for sure. Had some hard strikes, not a lot of pecking.

Hopefully I can get back out again this weekend. Leaving this afternoon to head to Myrtle Beach for Thanksgiving. Family has been there since Saturday. But if all goes well, I will come home Friday to carry the mini mes hunting and then do a little fishing Sunday. Got a lot of work to do to the boat as soon as I can though. Don't know how long the fish will hang around close to the ramp with all this cold weather. One's thing for sure, it felt good to be back on the water. Tootsie Roll

Have a safe trip TR. Thanks for the report. I'm hoping to get out on Saturday too. Going to Bath on Friday to visit Wife's Grandmother then hopefully everything is a go For Saturday.CF

The crappie never leave. I've done good all through the fall and all winter. Now I stick to N/W river. Saves on the gas.
