    Default Yp NWR Questions.


    I'm trying to plan vacation dates therefore... I am calling upon your sage advice. When will the yellow perch be in the NWR proper? Not the scouts or early females..I'm talking about the arrival of the entire herd. The whole kit and kaboodle.
    Now, I have googled almost to the end of the internet searching for the truth. I have read NC and Va studies on growth, reproduction, mortality and the likes. I have read that moon, weather, light of day and water temp all impact the spawn.
    Do you catch them in numbers before, during or after the spawn? Is it mid to late January or late January to mid Feb? Any particular dates have proven true year after year? I'll get out and go when I can but if I can nail down the best time frame for success....I'm putting in my leave chit.

    It can vary with the overall weather but the month of Feb is a good bet.

    last yr I fished NWR Jan 28 and Feb 4 I had nice fat female ribgers on both trips.. good luck!

    Some time in Feb. It depends on weather, sort of like saying when will the crappie spawn date be in 2013. Feb starts out slow and ends slow, somewhere in between you catch more. It is real weather dependent as it can be tough to get out in Feb. Ice, wind, rain etc. location , location, location.

    Thank you for the inputs. Between my work schedule and vacation I will be off from 29Jan to 18Feb. I'm going to be hollering for somebody to come go with me. I'm pretty much going to fish in NC so if you haven't been down Moyock Creek and fished the river heading south, a whole new adventure awaits

    glad ya got something coming together... All I can say is remember during the day, Perch are like cattle or sheep. They like to travel in herds and will school up. If you catch 1 work the area, there should be others. Good Luck!

    Have you been cat fishing lately? I sent you some emails to see how the fishing is. I will be back down next week, maybe we can get together and do some fishing.
