It was a very nice day to be on the water and a good day to catch a lot of fish. Problem is it was just like predicted, all very small. So it was just as well I forgot my camera. My very first cast using a money jig produced a keeper size gill so my neighbor that was with me wound up keeping about a dozen. I had planned on keeping some of those 9" crappie that everyone was talking about but they were few and far in between and very thin. Maybe 25 total. Throw in a few other varieties kept us busy and an enjoyable day. We stopped at Butler's for some minnows which was a mistake. We paid 10 bucks for 3 dozen that were suppose to be small but were more like bass minnows. As it turned out we should have just saved our money. Minnows produced 1 raccoon perch and that was it. Everything else was caught on jigs. I've never really tried very hard at long lining but am beginning to think I need to look into that a little harder. Anyway it was a good day. Anyone that is well experienced in long lining and wants to go during the week, let me know. I'd be glad to take you for some instructional time.

WTG Bill, glad you were out on a nice day and had some luck.
How deep and in what depth did you find them? I caught 206 there with jigs only, no need to bring minnows to that lake.

Depth varied a lot. We stayed in deep water where it was close to the bank. Cast to the bank and when I was seeing brush under us I would slow the retrieve way down. There were a lot of places I would have liked to anchor and cast to counting down. But no anchor. Well I do have one but way too big for that boat. I will have one very soon.

Long lining is one of my favorite techniques. I would love to help you out Bill but its a little too much distance between us for a week day trip...

I often ask to look at minnows before I buy. Many retailers seem upset by me asking but I don't need 3" minnows. I have found that at BDR the crappie prefer a larger minnow (@2"-2.25") than normal (1-1.5) "crappie minnows" .
I too have alot to learn about longlining, trolling in general!
How deep were you fishing?( I know nothing about BM) I noticed the last time I fished Anna, most of the larger fish were deeper (6-8') like in a staging area, and smaller ones hung shallow (2-5') and I noticed this last yr while fishing LCR. I wonder if bigger fish only go shallow for short periods and then pull back in (safer) deeper waters.
Sounds like fun--thanks for the report. I called Butler's a couple of weeks ago, and he said he carried 2 sizes of minnows: Crappie and Bass @ $2.99 a doz. After that I called Dasheill's and they said they had small minnows for $1.50 a dozen. Butler's said he opened at 6:00am, and Dasheill's said they open at 6:30. I did the mapquest thing, and Dasheill's is only 15 minutes longer a drive than Butler's (to BM that is).
Good to hear you got out and caught some.
And I even remimded you about the camera!! banghead lol
