I'm not finding them along weed edges and drop off these days. Most of mine (the few that I'm finding on my own) are coming from deeper water, usually just above the thermocline on the pond I've been fishing lately.
On the last trip that 870 and I took together, it was to a shallower water lake and there really is no deep water; we found them scattered all over the place so it may really depend on the water you're fishing.
Welcome to the New England board, by the way.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
From now until the lake turns over are my favorite time to catch them but I’m only good at catching them at night. I can tell you that I mostly catch them 15’ down over 35’ feet of water.
