Sunday afternoon trip

I spent the morning working around the homestead here yesterday with a plan to go fishing in the mid to late afternoon. Those healthy bluegills are just too tempting to leave alone and I wanted to put a few more in the freezer in case we don't get any ice fishing in this winter.
I went a bit earlier than usual, lines out at 3:45. Air temp around 80 under near cloudless blue skies, water temp at 72 and just a slight breeze.
My trip would start slower than it has lately and I'd catch only a few crappie, 3 to be exact.







The usual lures were not bringing them in like they were over the last few trips and I ended up trying lots of things. The 1/32 ounce heads were producing sporadically and I soon clipped on 1/16 ounce heads and things picked up a bit. Lots of bluegills tonight but many were short of the 8" mark which I call keeper size on this water. Over the course of my trip I'd put enough in the cooler for a few meals for my family.



As usual, I was the only one on the water but a few of the residents were sitting on their docks enjoying the evening. There is one lady who is often out sculling when I fish and we usually chat a bit. She wasn't rowing last night but was sitting with her husband and a guest on their dock when I came in at the end of my trip. She had often said she should try some of the fish someday and I had brought some of the fillets from my Friday trip with me and gave them to her. They thanked me profusely and we had a nice little chat and then I pointed the bow toward my launch point. I hope they enjoy them; I gave them a couple of ideas on how to fix them, in particular to not over cook them. To only cook them until they flake easily which should only take 2-4 minutes total depending on if they put any breading on them or not.



I called it a night at 6:30; my clicker would read 36 total for the night, with 15 bluegills coming home for the freezer. No perch at all tonight, 2 small bass, 3 crappies, the rest 'gills.
