Default Fall bite is ON! 10-21

We're having some fabulous Indian Summer weather here in southern New England. I wasn't able to get out over the weekend but I knew I was going today and bugged out of work at 3pm to make the best of if. Cloudless blue sky with the air temp at 75. Here are some foliage pics of the pond I fished today.

Wind had been calm up until about 2 and by 3, it was quite breezy. Didn't matter, I was going anyway; had lines in the water about 3:45 and used that breeze to drift the basin up the lake, Rich and Walt style. Water temp between 54 and 55 out over the basin. Found my best schools suspended between 15-20' over 25' and deeper holes. As the first hour ticked by, I had 13 on the clicker, a mix of crappie, 'gills and perch.

I kept the same 3 lures on all evening; Percy color Crappie Magnet, Roadrunner with TN shad color triple tail and Roadrunner with blue/black and straight chartreuse tail. Each would catch some of each species tonight. Here are some of the nice crappie I'd land this trip.

You get the idea; the crappie bite was excellent tonight. Best I've had in a while. The wind began to slack off about 5 and was calm by 5:30. I tried hovering and jigging over the schools but only managed a couple of bluegills; trolling was working better. The bite slacked off as the water flattened out and I only managed 3 fish after 5:40 and called it good at 5:55. Total for the trip would be 37 & I estimate that near half of them were crappie from 9" to a bit over 12". Lots of big 'gills and the perch were pretty good, too. Another wonderful trip for the scrapbook.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
