Once again, a fine fall day here in CT. Caught a break in the wind today but it is supposed to return over the weekend so I left work early again and hit the water with high hopes for another good crappie bite. Air temp at 54 at waters edge and water temp was 56-57. Lines in the water about 3:45 and first average bluegill came topside about 10 minutes later. I headed right out to the deep water where I found them last time. Slower paced bite tonight but the nice ones were there. We've had a lot of wind the last few days and lots of leaves have dropped but there is still plenty to enjoy around here.
The bluegills on average were smaller tonight than on previous trips but the crappie were active and of good size. I brought the cooler along tonight and a good mess of fish came home with me. Here's a few samples my catch:
I started out with the same lures as last trip but would switch it up throughout the trip as the light conditions changed. That Percy colored Crappie Magnet landed most of my crappie tonight but later in the trip, the Gunmetal color CM would come in to play as they ignored the Percy color.
Had 11 on the counter as the first hour went by then a busy 45 minutes would boost that total to 25. Only 1 more would show up after 5:30 and I called it a night at straight up 6 o'clock with 26 total. Brought home 11 nice crappie, all 11" or better and 4 'gills about 8" or so. 1 yellow perch would get tossed back along with one short crappie of maybe 8".
I've got them all cleaned up and in the fridge; I'll give away most of them but will be having me a bit of a fish fry at some point this weekend.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
Another successful trip. Good job
