I have used the same jigs on gills just like crappie this year. Still not the numbers that I get with worms or crickets. I am still learning the jig stuff so it is hard to say. I look for numbers right now since I am getting my grandson hooked on fishing.

Nice colored fish and jig. Are the gills in shallower water this time of year in Texas, like they are here in Florida? Just asking 'cause it looks like your in deeper water, maybe on a break line.
