Default New Transplant to North TX

I know we are at a severe draught up here where I have been stationed (Sheppard AFB) but where can I get into some slabs, or cats in the local area? I have a boat and I'm willing to drive somewhere within a reasonable day trip distance, everywhere I have checked out the ramps are completely out of the lake. If anyone can give me some insight I would appreciate it. As a fisherman/ waterfowl hunting this lack of water is killing me. Just moved here in Feb from Arkansas where it continually floods.

Texoma. I believe the AFB has an annex with a boat ramp. And there are lots of other ramps on the lake. Most of the lakes around DFW are pretty low.

Lake Texoma has some cats and striper that will take your equipment away from you. Use caution. I don't utilize ramps, kayak fish only......good luck.

Sorry I don't know anything about the lakes in that area, but welcome to Texas and the board. I live in East Texas on Toledo Bend. I do know there are lots of lakes around the Dallas Fort Worth area. Also know near Austin area lots fish Summerville lake. Wish I had more info for you!

For the cats try the red river and for some slabs go to lake Bridgeport. I've had a lot of luck at Bridgeport. should be less than an hour and half drive from the base. I live in bowie and our lake is so low I can't get my boat in there. Bridgeport is 22ft low but there is still a ramp open at the 380 bridge in runaway bay. try around the bridge and up at the north end around the docks and boathouses. they'll bite jig or minnows. use a red/chart. jig, that seems to work best. Be careful going up to the north end though there is a spot about halfway up the lake out in front of the dam where it gets really shallow and you can actually see some land starting to stick out, its marked with jugs just pay attention. anyway good luck and welcome to texas and crappie.com
