To discern HB GPS antennas...
Some have a gray gasket between the top and bottom housings and by the printing on the top housing...
GR4/GR4RD GPS Receivers were welded and have no gasket. They should state “ADVANCED ACCESSORY SYSTEM” under the “HUMMINBIRD”.
The GR16, GR50, GRHA, GRP, and GR-HS all look similar but have different artwork on the top of the housing. They have a Dark Gray gasket visible between the top and bottom housings.
* GR16 states: “GPS ACCESSORY SYSTEM” under the “HUMMINBIRD”.
* GR50 states: “AS-GR50 GPS MODULE” under the “HUMMINBIRD”.
* GRHA states: “AS-GRHA HIGH ACCURACY GPS” under the “HUMMINBIRD”.
* GRP states: “PRECISION GPS MODULE” under the “HUMMINBIRD”.
* GPS-HS states: “AS-GPS HS PRECISION GPS + COMPASS” under the “HUMMINBIRD”.

From Deb at HB ...
QUOTE=HBirdDeborahCRC;5741277]On the SI unit Jiggin Mode is a selection in the 2D Sonar Express Menu. It allows the user to select the sonar ping pattern for use while vertical jigging. When turned ON the ping pattern will be: 200 kHz, Left SI Beam, Right SI Beam, 83 kHz, repeat. With this mode turned OFF the ping pattern will be: 200 kHz, Left SI Beam, Right SI Beam, 83 kHz, Left SI Beam, Right SI Beam, repeat. Basically this feature prioritizes the 2D beam over the SI beam.
When scrolling through the menu options and attempt to choose the transducer selection under the "connected transducer" Sonar menu option, the transducer options will display momentarily, but then instantly the menu cursor will exit the menu and revert or jump back back to the "Alarms" menu.
-------
From HB ...:
I]“This is actually normal for this particular menu option. When adjusting the "Connected Transducer" feature the settings of the menus have to refresh to correlate to the new transducer selection. Rather than the system waiting until you stop moving left and right and leave it on a specific transducer for a second or so, indicating you have made your final decision, it immediately refreshes the menus with the new menu options for that type of sonar. We do understand that this can cause some frustration when changing from Compact Side Scan or Hi Def Side Scan to Dual Beam or something else while on the water but this is normal.”

The different size screens have different pixel densities.
The 798 has 31,170.5 pixels per square inch.
The 898 has 17,533.4 pixels per square inch
The 998 has 12,755.7 pixels per square inch
The 1198 has 8,858.2 pixels per square inch
The Helix specs are ...:
480 x 800 = 384,000 total pixels
3" x 4.6" = 13.8" square inches (unverified)
384,000 divided by 13.8 = 27,826 pixels density per square inch ...
(If my calculations are correct on the Helix) ...
So the Helix total resolution is almost as high as the 798 ...

Constructing a route ... From Greg in another forum ...
You have to tell the unit what waypoints to use in your route. You can make a route two ways as the manual says. Go under the Nav menu tab and select the Waypoints, Routes, Tracks menu and use the right arrow key to open the menu. Use the Up arrow key to get to the Options menu and open it. Select New then New Route and name the route. When done with that you will go to the Plan Route menu and start selecting waypoints. Don’t forget to save it when you are done. The way to make a route ‘on the fly’ is to move the cursor when on the Chart View, to a location or a waypoint you already have marked and then use the GOTO button. Select additional waypoints until you have your route constructed, then go to the Xpress menu on the Chart View and select Save Current Route.
You can also make a route in the HumminbirdPC program.

Garmin's new xducers ...GT30 GT40 GT50
Posted by troyboy
QUOTE=TroyBoy30;5925424]heres a reply i got from my garmin tech rep when i asked the difference between the new transducers. im going with all gt50's
One thing worth noting is that the 30 does not have traditional scanning, period. I don’t know if you will want it on there but I figured it was something to share. Beyond that, the 40 and 50 have minor different frequency ranges, but that won’t really affect you. The only difference beyond that is the 50 has CHIRP on traditional, whereas the 40, while it is technically bit more powerful (which won’t affect you), it’s locked at either 77 or 200 kHz.
Helixt is compatible with Navionics products that are on 2GB cards. That is what GOLD, Hotmaps Premium and Navionics+ are.
The Navionics+ is the best choice since it will give you Sonar Charts and Nautical Charts and has the same coverage choice as the GOLD and Hotmaps Premium.
Plus it is does not have regional restrictions. You download the waters you want from anywhere in the US and Canada up to the max 2GB card capacity.
