83kHz issue from a little "birdie"...

The XTM 9 SI 180 T Compact SI is the trolling motor puck version of the transom Compact SI transducer that is standard with the 899 and all the smaller display side SI units down to the 398. It has extra internal shielding for trolling motor use. Your unit was shipped with the Compact SI transom transducer XNT 9 SI 180 T. The transom transducer does not have the extra internal shielding.
The XHS 9 HDSI 180 T is the standard one for larger display models and has longer SI crystals. It is the same transducer as the trolling model
XTM 9 HDSI 180 T. Just the mount is different and is suitable for both applications since it has extra internal shielding.
Since it has longer SI crystals, it produces a thinner SI pulse which produces somewhat sharper images. You may or may not notice the difference unless you use both the Compact SI and HDSI.
Garmin "DownVu" vs "Dual View"...
QUOTE=semperfifishing;6768132]Most traditional sonar transducers used in fish finders are considered down looking...
Also on the market are multipurpose systems that use both traditional fish finding sonar and structure scan in the same unit and can use the same transducer.

This is known as a "Dual View".. .....fish finding sonar and structure scan at the same time...and using the same single transducer.
Garmin has an "All in one" down view- sonar transducer that will give both fish finding sonar images and down view for structure.
All-in-one HD-ID™ and DownVü™ Transducer (8-pin)
010-12087-01...this is not a CHIRP system.
"Get ultra-clear sonar pictures of objects, structure and fish that pass below your boat with this all-in-one 8-pin transducer.
This 20 ft transducer cable with built-in fast response temperature sensor has a power rating of 500 W; a depth of 1,900 ft (traditional) and 750 ft (DownVü); an operating frequency of 77/200 kHz (traditional) and 455 (DownVü); and a 0 to 70 transom angle.
Transducer comes with transom and trolling motor mounts, and installation instructions. "

Above is also what many users refer to as "Dual View"..but that uses 2 separate transducers....as it is a CHIRP system.
The GCV 10 Down Vu / Side Vu which is for structure and uses CHIRP technology.
This is a black box unit that uses its own special transducer .
The GCV 10 side and down Vu images can be shared at the same time with down looking fish finding sonar on the Garmin units that support it.
For example:
If one has a 70s, 741xs, 840xs, 1040xs they can use the GCV 10 to have "dual View"....but that uses 2 different transducers.
Here is a link to an article written about the GCV 10 by one of our members ( Bill Bishop) for Panbo:

In the HB DI units...Digital Depth Source menu selection to "Auto" means...:
QUOTE=Humminbird_Greg;2751231]That the unit will automatically switch from using the 2D sonar to the DI sonar when in shallow water and switch back when moving into deeper water. Not sure what the exact water depth for this is but would venture a guess that it is at the 10 foot mark.[/QUOTE]
