I'd tip the guide according to how well they put you on fish. More the fish...more the tip. I don't fish the "foot" so I can't help you there....tight lines!

Okay,
Leave for reelfoot sat am will be fishing sun thru wed. A couple of months ago I asked for some tips and you helpful members said to check back closer to my trip. So whats the report on the gills and are the crappie in the trees also? The big question is how much do I tip my guide for a day, I dont want to insult him but also dont want to be a fool either can use all the extra money to pay for gas.
Thanks in advance,

i guess it would depend on what i would be paying as a guide fee. also is it an independant guide or through a service. does the guide get the whole fee or just a portion? if he gets the whole fee then i might tip an extra $50 if he really keeps me on fish. if he only gets a portion the i would probably go an extra $100 if he really made sure i had a good trip. i know that probably sounds high but a great tip might juts make an average trip into the trip of a lifetime. when you think about what you spend money on all year long what's an extra $100? but thats just my opinion.
I would say that a tip of 15 to 20 percent would be sufficent just like you tip a waiter. I think that is a good starting point. The fun you have, the quality of the trip, and how hard the guide works should also be considered. I have had good guided trips where we didn't catch that many fish. I have also been on bad guided trips were we caught a lot of fish.
I dont know anything about hiring a guide and have never been to reelfoot but from what I understand a guide is the best bet for your 1st trip.Everything I've read about reelfoot say's it is full of stump's.A hole in your boat and a ruined trip, well I would think a generous tip would be worth the 1st lesson especially if you learn something about the lake and how to catch fish there.I dont know what a guide cost there but 20% sound's about right to me.
There are several things to look at, Did you catch fish, how many and how big, did you have a good time, and most importantly how much did you LEARN!!!! If the guide took the time to try to teach you, he is an EXCELLANT GUIDE! How well you learned may be a different story, if you learned alot....tip alot! :D
Sound's good to me barry.
Thank you for the responses. I will post when I get back on how we do. I am really having trouble staying focused at work today. What a great site this is to be part of.
Thanks again,
